Cabling and Bracing

Installing steel or heavy nylon cables between heavy stems reduces the strain and helps support the tree. Cables will also help to reduce stress during harsh weather such as strong winds and heavy snow/ice load. If the crotch is split or weak heavy steel bracing rods can be inserted in the trunk to provide direct support and reduce a twisting strain on the tree. Every tree is different though and needs to be inspected on an individual basis.  These procedures can help to lengthen the useful life of a tree and maintain its safety however not all trees are candidates for cabling and bracing.
